    cannot open a mysql database

I have a mysql database hosted on a remote server. i tried to open Sql Client Data Provider and Oracle Client Data Provider, neither worked. I tried ODBC, the "system and user data source" is gray and not accessible. I have to choose "file data source". I can't seem to connect to databases at all. Please help.

Re: cannot open a mysql database

Hi, Please ask the Spotfire administrator to allow information links to open other sources like MySQL. If this is a direct connection (from spotfire client) then the issue is network security. You may need a system technician to grant you the option to access the remote servers were the data is stored (DB's). Best Regards, Eran

Re: cannot open a mysql database

Hi, I am trying to connect the spotfire client directly to a MySQL database at another company. I can connect from my PC with MS Access via ODBC and link tables and look at data. I modified the spotfire configuration to enable the 3 MySQL data sources; MySQL, MySQL (data direct), MySQL5. I also downloaded the MySQL jdbc driver and placed the mysql-connector-java-5.1.20-bin.jar file in the various /lib directories on my spotfire server. I restarted the spotfire service. When I go to define a new data source in the spotfire client and save it I get an error. What else can I check?

The data source type 'mysql5' is not supported.
Cannot connect to data source 'Pason', due to invalid configuration or that the data source is not running.

The MySQL5 data source does not present syntax that accepts a port number. The default Tibco driver does present syntax including a port number.

I can get Spotfire to access the external MySQL database via the MS Access database but I'd rather not do that. However the spotfire connection via ODBC directly does not work either.

    Thanks.
