    Convertion of "Text" to "Date"

I have a date column in my dataset which has dates of the format 'YYYY-MM-DD'.

I have created a calculated column - where i am changing its format to MMMYY using the date and text functions. Since, the resultant is a Text type, the values that i get are sorted alphabaticallyand not in date sequence. Thus, I am facing sorting problem as the data is too large and has to be refreshed on regular basis. Sorting manually is not a good idea.

Can anybody suggest me any solution to my problem.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Palak Sethi

     Hi Palak,

Try the "Date" function as described here:

    Hey Per,

    Thanks for the help!

The link that you gave me contains a date function which will convert the text to date but again in the format MM/DD/YYYY.

I have a text field which contains month IDs like MMMYY eg:- Mar10, Jan09 etc. If I give Date(Mar10) gives me 3/1/2010. But, I want it in same way(MMMYY) but in date format. So, this will make sorting easy for me.

PS: On the web page you sent me, its written:  The output formats available are dependent on your current locale. Is there any Date format of the type MMMYY ?

    Thanks and Regards,
    Palak Sethi

Hi Palak, The trick in spotfire is the letter size. MM is Month while mm is minutes. Actually your date format should be "MMMyy". Just change the filter format settings (right click on the filter) to MMMyy and you get a date filter with this display option. And now you can sort by date. Best Regards, Eran

    Eran,

Changing the filter format is good. But i am not able to find out this specific format- MMMyy in my list. I can see other formats but not this.

Is there any way to define such a format so that i can use it ?

    Thanks and Regards,
    Palak Sethi

    Hi,

    Use the custom option.

You can type your own formats there.

    Hey,

I dont think there is a custom option in Date format. It is only available in Integer.

Correct me if I am wrong.

    Hi,

Custom Format is not data type specific. Its general.

Right click on the date filter => Choose Format Values ...

Now on the left pane choose custom => at the top right pane write your format (MMMyy)

Click TAB to see a sample of the new format in the sample field.

    Best Regards,

    Eran

    kobe beats

In order Beats By Dr. Dre Detox to satisfy the consumers of headset audio quality and higher requirements such as smart phones and portable equipment need to be high quality consumer stereo headphone amplifiers. The energy efficiency high capacitance coupling scheme for Beats By Dre Studio Ferrari Limited Editionthe power supply is only output signal power supply. But this plan to use big coupling capacitance (can cause the size and cost), and low frequency sound quality kobe beats is poorer.
